Hi

If one of you very nice people have time read my query, I would be very grateful, it's come to 'phone a friend' time here.

Just redoing wishbones droplinks and ARB bushes, all ok up to trying to fit new bushes, they look far too small, and when I tightened em up they dont look too clever if you know what I mean,

They look pretty squished, and the gap at the back isn't really closed.

Now I know this sounds daft, I mean, I figured out the top nuts on the brackets were a 18mm flatty, and everything else has gone ok. But this is the first time I've done peugeot bushes. ( odd shaped buggers )

So I tried my best to match the flat sides, but when fitted to the ARB, they dont close over at all, not even close.

And when I tightened the bracket up, it seemed to draw the bush round from where I had it, and it looks pretty damn squished and all.

bushes came from usually reliable local motorfactors, they are marked 'citroen/peugeot. but the aperture in them seems small compared to the ARB.

Can someone put me out of my misery - this should've been a quick job, MOT is tomorrow eve, and I aint even greased me pipes.

Any ideas?

Of Course Edward, and thanks for your taking time to read my post - been so busy hadn't time to get pictures. Just back from garage, and took these;

So this is the bush I have already replaced, alongside the remaining new one for comparison

 


The following images are of the the other new bush, which I perhaps unwisely ( but completely ran out of patience ) have not only tried to fit, but have tightened up to ratchet tightness in an attempt to close it over:

 


 


 


 



Looks a mess doesn't it? How can I tighten up these wretched things and keep alignment/position in such a confined space ( I have literally inches down there ), and at the same time wind up the shackle bolt? Have I banjaxxed the bush? Does it look like the right item even? Have I put the bugger in upside down or something? (etc etc )

If the bush looks wet, its just a bit of silicone grease I had smeared on in the mistaken belief that it would help.

I realise I'm being dense here, any helpful suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

You're bang on there gp, thanks for your reply.

So, yes - supplied bushes are 18mm. Recommended for this chassis# is 22mm.

Missed my MOT, a bit miffed to say the least.

Numerous parts suppliers referred me to the wrong item ( on the strength of my reg# ) - a fact which I confirmed after contacting authorised dealers, who, wisely, searched by VIN instead.

None of the parts suppliers were able to even source, let alone locate, the correct bushes. So I've ordered them through a dealership.

The above photos therefore depict a bush which is too small for its ARB.

A note to anyone out there with a similar model and year of pug - be cautious of parts located by numberplate search. Supplied parts seldom display item specs, and by the time you are fitting them, it is too late for a refund.

One final note. The OEM bushes have the inner diameter displayed on the inner circumference. There will be a long string of identifying numbers/letters, then a 3 digit figure displayed separately. In this case, you can just make out a '022' on the old bush.

I trusted my supplier ( who later admitted they had sent the wrong item - however the correct item wasn't even in their database ), but should have been prudent enough to chase up the OEM and specs through a dealership, beforehand.

My model is a 2004 206sw 1.4 petrol
