2004 180GTI 88k miles.
Occasionally,mostly when up to temp,go to restart it and although cranks over fine it refuses to start.Back the key off and try again and 9 times out of 10 it will fire up instantly.Today however it took 3 attempts more to start.
Once fired up it runs normally.No ecu light comes on,have checked for fault codes and nothing comes up.
Plugs are fairly new,air filter is fine.

Sounds like it could be coolant temperature sensor. Changed this on mine and it improved startup drastically

Replaced coolant temp and crank sensor tonight,see how it goes.
