The car is sitting very low and must be sitting on the bump stops as there is no bounce if a sit in the boot. What's that all about?

I drove it yesterday and it felt fine(!) and there were no bangs, creaks or groan's from the rear beam.

I'm sure some experts will be able to tell me what's likely to be wrong.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Thanks, I was out this morning to have a look at it. Looks like the trailing arm bushes are seized in the beam. The car was sitting low because I had a two people in the back and it didn't rise back up when they got out.

I'm going to strip the arms off it to see if the stub axles are goosed before I buy new bearings.

It was the car being low that confused me.

If they are so seized that they can withstand the tension in the torsion bars they must be completely knackered!

Yip, it will probably need a new beam but it costs nothing to strip it and have a look.

Bear in mind the car cost less than a new beam will. It's run on tight budget.

Well I tried to strip the trailing arms but the were seized on so rather than bugger about any further in bought a rebuilt beam from imaxle.

It arrived within 24 hours and for £170 delivered fantastic value. It's been blasted, painted fitted with new bearings and mounting bushes. I've just fitted it tonight so hopefully all will be well with the car on its test run tomorrow. Basically great service from imaxle.

Where do they source there axle stubs for the hubs though as Peugeot don't sell them anymore?

I watched mine being rebuilt and as far as I can remember they knocked them out with a hammer!

No idea, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too much hassle for an engineering company to run them off on a lathe.
