Hi guys, just a quick question, below I've posted 2 picts of basically what my 2 camshaft sprockets look like.

Cam 1 just looks normal
Cam 2 has some kind of weight in it, does anyone know if this weight is required ? Or if it can be removed, or if it's meant to be secured into its sprocket by anything ?

The reason I ask is whilst doing my timing belt, I was able to just pull this weight out of its sprocket and place to one side, then pin the sprockets before removing the old belt, then just push it back into place after finishing, everytime I start the car from cold now, I can hear this weight rubbing on the timing belt cover, it's getting a little annoying, after warming up, it seems to settle down, I guess it's just positioning itself, it must be some sort of balance weight for some reason, but not secured into the sprocket by anything, is it required or can I just do away with it.

OK, so I've been ringing around mechanics and Peugeot like crazy to try and get to the bottom of this, finally think I've found the answer, the part number is 0805J4, if you google this part number, you'll all be able to see exactly which part I'm talking about, and looks like mine is broken and needs changing, which is a damn shame as this means changing the timing belt again, unless I can just release the tensioner, get enough slack to just change the sprocket and then put the timing belt back on, it is only 2 weeks old after all.

Just buy another basic sprocket... its from a 99 model engine.. they fit and are cheaper

Thanks for the reply, I thought about just taking the weight out, it then just looks like sprocket / cam 1, but someone said the weight is required for balance.

Ive ordered the replacement from Peugeot themselves, its not really expensive, £37 with the VAT, the expensive part is getting it fitted, £150 is the cheapest I can get it done for, really cant be bothered after my last cam belt change experience to do it myself.
