Hi guys, I'm new to the forum,
I have a 206 1.4 HDI Verve 06 Plate
Last night when I pulled up to some traffic lights and stopped, my engine revs kept dropping and bouncing between 7-8k instead of staying at a steady 10k. It also sounded like my engine wanted to keep cutting out/stall, but it didn't, it's like it kept saving itself.
I set off from the traffic lights and all was well, the car drove like normal.
As I pulled up to the next set of lights it did the same thing again.
It did this for the rest of the journey about 30 mins. When I got home and got it on the drive, it was still doing the same thing.
I woke up this morning and started the engine, it ran well when idle, I took it for a 10 min drive and about 6 mins in it started again!
I have no EML on my dash so can't connecting it to diagnostics
Anybody have any clue what's going on?
Thanks

There is sometimes an issue with the fuel pipes under the air box rubbing and wearing through. Might be worth taking the air box out and checking these.

Do you mean 700 - 800 rpm and 1k. Idling at 10k seems a bit too quick.

I would be checking the low pressure fuel lines under the air box, they can cause all sorts of problems when they let air in

Thanks, will have a look in the morning.
Seems to be when the engine warms up too, ran well for a while tonight as its cold outside, then as soon as the engine hits 70 degrees C. It starts!

EML came on this morning, took it to my local garage and hooked it up.
Turned out to be the EGR Valve.

My 1.4HDI has this same issue, but it cuts out almost every time I stop.
How much is the EGR valve fix & how did it work?

My local garage priced it up at £140 for the part then £70 labour.
I have chosen not to have it done, and 'blocked' it off instead, which cost £6.00 for the piece of sheet metal to block it off. And £20 labour.
It's running fine now!

Thanks! £140 is a bit steep for me too! Is it dangerous to use the car when it's experiencing this problem?

I'm not sure if it's dangerous or not, I was driving mine for 2 days with the problems.
Then took it to the garage who just unplugged the EGR valve. Which fixed the problem. I drove it like this for 2 days (ran perfectly) whilst he priced up a new valve.
Then had it blocked of yesterday!

That's interesting, is this valve not necessary then? I can imagine you might need your engine mapping if you block that valve off?

Egr just aids cylinder filling, you dont require it
