I have a 1.4l, 06 reg, 206SW with power steering and air-con. The power steering pump and a tensioner were replaced three months ago. On my way to work I stalled the car at a roundabout and when I restarted the car the power steering wasn't working.
When I looked under the bonnet the auxilliary belt was sitting partly off the pulley for the power steering pump (see pic). I wanted to loosen the belt and re-fit it but, I can't get the belt off.
I applied a socket wrench to the nut on the silver coloured tensioner just below the pump but the nut won't turn, although the tensioner does move slightly. What am I doing wrong? Do I just need to apply more force? Am I trying to undo the wrong part? How do I remove and re-fit the belt?

You need a 16mm spanner to move the tensioner out of the way to slacken it.

Thank you for answering. Does this mean that I can release enough tension to remove and re-fit the belt just by moving the tensioner with a spanner?

The bolt on the tensioner pulley is a LEFT hand thread.
There should also be a small hole on the tensioner near the bottom that is the lock hole.
When you slacken the tensioner & get it in the right position you can then use a 4mm allen key in the hole to lock the tensioner of in the slack position while you refit the belt correctly around the pulleys.
The left hand threaded bolt is used for 2 reasons.
1) So it wont come undone as the pulley goes round during normal engine operation.
2) To allow the spring loaded tensioner to be slackened of easy with a spanner / socket.
NOTE: Take a picture / make a sketch of how the belt is run around all the pulleys BEFORE you slacken the tensioner of!

im not sure if mine has the correct tension....
should the tensioner be bouncing while the engine is on tick over?? can the tensioner be adjusted / tightened from the engine bay or does the car need to be up in the air?
the car has had a few aux belts in my mums ownership and im not 100% sure if the tensioner has been replaced, the car starts and runs spot on but at idle she makes a bit of a grumbling noise, someone mentioned it sounds like a dual mass clutch issue but im pritty sure the 2.0 hdi doesnt run a dual mass???
also the power steering takes a while to catch up doing a quick 3 point turn, could this be a fluid / air lock issue? levels seem ok
any help is appreciated, spud.

right so with the cold spell the car starts lovely... after about a minute you get a bit of belt squeal and then the rumble follows shortly after....
is this a worn belt / tensioner issue??
any help is appreciated.
