Hi there, I've just registered on here and find it a little difficult to navigate. sorry in advance if this has already been answered.
My mechanic says I need an ECU module (little electric thing) on the back of the fuel pump replacing...and it'll cost £230 to do so. does this sound legit?
I've tried to do a little research on this and the fuel pump seems right for the problems I'm experiencing
1. car starts perfectly
2. drives for 100-200 meters then loses power (nothing when pressing accellerator)
3. if i wait a minute or so i can go another 100-200 metres
4. sometimes the car loses all power and cuts out completely after step 2.
Its a 2002 206 1.4 HDi
Sorry if details are a little vague but im not mechanicly minded
Any help at all on this would be greatly appreciented

Could be anything. Take it to a better garage who can put it on their diagnostic kit and tell you what the fault codes are. As it is a 2002 a cheapo off the shelf code reader isn't likely to work though!
What you describe can .. and I stress CAN ... be several things including the crank sensor, catalytic converter core collapse, or a number of relays or sensors.
I've got a 2002 1.4 Hdi and I'm sure the ECU isn't on the fuel pump .. which makes me suspicious about the original diagnosis! Can't check now as the car's in use ...

Could be the Fuel Pressure Regulator in the High Pressure pump, there not the cheapest of things especially genuine bosch one's. But not that labour intensive to change. So that does seem a bit of an extravegant estimate if im thinking of the same thing.
