Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 2002 Peugeot 206 XS with 1.4 petrol engine. This is my first car and I fell in love with it instantly Smile

Everything was fine with the car, but there was one thing that annoyed me: display on the instrument cluster was damaged - it didn't display all the bars, so some numbers were not easily readable.

So, I bought a cheap dashboard with broken speedometer and rev counter (seller assured me that display is working) and figured I could try to fix this myself (bad idea).

I removed my dashboard and connected the broken one to see if the display works. What I found out then is that the dashboard I bought is the old model with only one connector. I connected it, turned on the ignition key and nothing happened. OK, I brought both units home and opened them only to find out that the older dashboard has a different display which cannot be used as a replacement for my device. But, when I went back to the car and reinstalled my dashboard, it didn't work at all!

Only the battery light turns on when I turn on the ignition key and the backlights work when I turn on the lights. But other than that, nothing!

I checked the fuses underneath the steering wheel and fuses in the engine compartment, but couldn't find anything broken. I'm pretty confident that the dashboard is not broken, but I'm clueless about where to look for the issue.

I really hope someone here can help.

Thank you in advance!

Marko

If you have a 2002 model you need to get one from the same year or later as there are two wiring systems in the 206 and they are not compatible. You need what is known as the Multiplex system. There are also differences between petrol and diesel versions. Check the part number stickers on the back of the dash units.

Also be warned if you connect a speedo with a higher mileage to your car it will stay like it!

Hope that connecting the older unit hasn't screwed the BSI unit .. the car's brain!

Have you tried the SEARCH option on the forum??? I'm sure you aren't the first to have this problem and probably won't be the last!

PS give it a month or two and the love will diminish! Very Happy

Hi Gazza,

Thanks for your reply.

I did try the search option, but couldn't find an answer for my issue. Mostly people had problems with the speedometer, rev counter and background lights.

I think the problem is not in the actual instrument cluster. What I think happened is something else got screwed when I connected the old half-working unit I bought online, so now the car doesn't recognize my unit at all.

Would you recommend trying the BSI reboot process from the below link?

Sorry, looks like I created two accounts by mistake.

The above comment is also mine.

Try a BSI reset. Just make sure your cluster is plugged in properly. If you want to change the dials you can just swap them but you cant just swap the whole gauge.
