55 plate 1.4 sport. Had car a month and had this problem almost from the start. Not going into detail as to why we ended u with it, suffice to say somebody wasn't very honest. anyway, apart from gears crunching and clutch making an odd whine now and again that goes away when the pedal is depressed, it's got a revs problem. To start with it was erratic idle and some difficulty with revs dropping on pulling away. Did a brief clean of throttle without removing it and after days of faults and stop warings eventually setteld down. Now though it's come back with a vengance. Trying to pull awat from traffic lights the revs drop so low it almost cuts out then shot up like someone has a very heavy foot. It also seems to have lost power on hills. With the hand brake not working well and a pull to the left I know we should just scrap it, but would love to know what is actaually possibly wrong with it!

Hey there. I take it you're the guy from Bristol that I got my Mrs to send over this way?
Cleaning the throttle housing is part of the job, but undoing the housing and cleaning it out properly is advised, including doing the butterfly. Cleaning the ICV though, this should help no end.
Sorting out the handbrake is an easy fix. There's a screw at the back of the centre console, undo that and also unclip the button at the back and the whole back part can be removed giving you access to the tightening nut.
At a guess (as I have the same problem and not yet looked at it), the clutch issue could be the release bearings.

Which version of the 1.4 engine does this 206 have?
8 valve or 16 valve?
Does this 206 have the old fashioned mechanical throttle body worked by cable OR is it the electronic fly by wire throttle set up - could be either type at this age if its the 8 valve.
If its the electronic fly by wire throttle set up then the throttle body is a known weak spot.
Handbrake - if it has rear drums then these need to be removed & the shoes checked & adjusted correctly BEFORE you think about adjusting the cable behind the handbrake lever.
Clutch - wear & tear, if its just release bearing noise then these can keep going for a long while before you need to replace the complete clutch kit.
Its sitting at junctions etc with the clutch pedal down that destroys release bearings.
