My daughter drove through a large puddle earlier in her 52 plate 1.9 XSI, a bit too fast it would seem, as she now has a warning message about a problem with the anti pollution system (by the time I got the message, she was already on a train back to Uni, having limped home in the car, so I haven’t got it precisely, sorry).
I’ve searched through many threads about the anti pollution error, but they all seem to have different causes – I wondered if anyone knows a likely one which is specifically related to (presumably) getting water in the engine compartment?
Thanks

Needs scanning for fault codes.
One thing to check first - have a look at the air filter & see if it has got wet.

Thanks, will do - I know the air filter would be the obvious thing just thought I'd try and educate myself first...

Anti pollution fault is just a catch all warning to tell the driver that a fault has been recorded by the engine ecu & you need to plug a code reader in to see what faults are now stored in the memory.

Cheers - I have a cheap generic reader on my laptop for my own car... any likelihood a 52 plate 206 is OBD2 compliant?

Petrol YES
Diesel - possibly
Diagnostic socket is behind the trim panel when the drivers right knee is, turn the plastic screw with a coin & then un clip the panel.

Thanks mate, she's petrol, so I'll have a fiddle at that.
Much appreciated

Should be a Bosch ME 7.4.4 engine management system as its a TU5JP4 engine.
Post up the codes once read & we can guide you further.

OK, checked the air filter, all dry – but the car has been sitting in hot sun for nearly a week now, so of course it may not have been previously.
Fault code was P0300 – Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected.
I’m guessing something got a good soaking, but has now dried out? I reset the codes, drove the car for a few miles, no problem, so I’m hoping it’s OK now…
Tell you what, that little motor was such fun to drive after my old Rover 75 diesel (even though mine’s had a 160bhp re-map), I drove slightly irresponsibly for an old man… and didn’t want to give it back
It’s the XSI, and seems to like being hammered a bit
Thanks for your help
