Evening all,

Need some advice on the following please. For the past few months we have had an ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT due to Ageing Cat syndrome. But today SWMBO took the car out drove about 1/2mile then much stuttering and CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAULT came up on display, and I assume judging by her description the car went into a limp mode as it would not rev past 1800rpm.

Once home I plugged in the PP2000 (which takes an age to run a Global test, but that's another story), anyways here is a list of what it told me under the Engine ECU.

Then each individual code from that page :-

So is this CAT related i.e is it totally goosed now, or just a random set of faults?

As having started the car without issue before I did the codes it ran fine, I once I had read the above codes I then cleared them, and again the car sounded fine, and they did not return yet, but the ANTIPOLLUTION always returns after a run.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

Chris

Hello this is common problem on the older 1.6 in my country too, try to change to new/ working cat converter.
If you reset the problem will disappear, but once on the road the ecu will detect an error and go to limp mode again

So would the consensus be that it's CAT related then?

No. It could be the coil pack starting to fail or your plugs need a change. Thos coolant temperatures look very low too so make sure the thermostat is opening and closing properly and you have new coolant (50/50 mix with de-ionised water or pre-mixed).

Give the car a good "Italian Tune-up" .. take it out and give it "beans" and get it up to temp to burn off any residues on the cat ... they don't like poodling around on short stop-start trips and need to get hot!

And .. make sure you have no exhaust leaks. We had a pretty constant game with the lambda sensors registering faults and it turned out the exhaust was parting company with the rear silencer box.

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

Ok, but surely the codes relate to something more specific.

Coolant temps low as it was only started and driven 1/2 mile before problem started.
Plugs were changed under 1000 miles ago, its had an "Italian tune" when it first threw up the ANTIPOLLUTION warning a few months ago and also every time I get to drive it, and no exhaust leaks either. Sad

The cat won't cause the misfire but the misfire will make the cat look bad. You'll be putting unburnt fuel through it and the lambda sensors.

More out why it's misfiring first or you could damage a new one if tge problem isn't cured.

Morning.

Now I have some time, I opened up the engine cover, it appears I have a sagem coil pack, with ngk plugs, and given that these two seem a poor combination on further reading, should I get some Bosch plugs? However I cannot seem to find a recommended coil pack though, choices I've seen are Delphi, HAAS, and a no brand in GSF.

Also went out for a 10 mile thrash without incident. Confused . Com? I thought it would throw a fault again.

Any thoughts please?

Delphi will be decent enough for a coil pack.
Toyota C-HR GR Sport 2.0 Hybrid with JBL & Alcantara packs.
