Hi guys,
I'm experiencing some odd issues with my 206 cc where it randomly won't start and I'm hoping the problem sounds familiar to someone here.
What happens is that 9 out of 10 times I try to start my car, it will do so without any issues whatsoever. However, every once in a while the entire system seems to lose power after I try to start the engine. This issue has presented itself in a variety of situations: when the car has been standing still for a day, or when it's just been running a few minutes earlier. With moist weather, or with dry weather. Sometimes the issue doesn't present itself in 20 days, other times this happens 4 times in a week.
When I put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "accessory" position, the system still has power but as soon as I turn the key over to the "start engine" position it loses power completely – the odometer display turns off and also the central locking system doesn't work any more.
However, I can always get the car to start again by simply disconnecting the + pole connector from the battery and reconnecting it again. For some reason this works, every time.
Do you guys have any idea what this might be? My local garage couldn't find any error messages in the system, however they were using a generic device. I'm not sure if Peugeot hardware would be able to find error messages that generic devices can't.

Before I started recording I've tried to start the car once, and the odometer display went black after turning the key into the "start engine" position and then it just won't start no matter how often I turn the key – until I disconnect and reconnect the battery, that is.

As a starting point, have you checked the main Earth strap?
They're prone to corrosion at the terminals, and / or snapping and could explain your problem, and it might be 'fixed' when you disconnect the lead by the 'jolting' of the cable when you're closing the bonnet.

I haven't thought about the earth strap, actually, but thank you so much for this suggestion as I'll definitely be checking it out. Other issues related to the earth strap definitely seem familiar!
If I understand correctly, there are two earth cables, however when I try to look into the location of both cables I get confused. One website says that the main cable is attached to the clutch bellhousing, and there's another cable from the battery earth to the chassis. However, a different website tells me that there is an earth cable that goes from the negative battery terminal to the engine block, not the chassis.
Could you provide some insight into which cable you mean, exactly?
Furthermore, by "it might be fixed by the 'jolting' of the cable when I'm closing the bonnet" do you mean that it's not actually disconnecting the + pole of the battery that fixes it but rather the slamming of the bonnet? I'll also try just opening and closing the bonnet next time then, just to see if that actually is the case.
