Do you think those hubs are the same as oe peugeot parts? Seems a strange thing for the aftermarket to bother making.

You can imagine how car looks underneath if so much rust munched many top layers of the old hubs.
Next up will be to de-rust and coat the underside before the winter sets in (they were already Salt Spreading the M5 yesterday Sad )

It only misses a ridge cutout where the square-head bolt sits, otherwise they look and feel of the same cast. Even the wheel alignment didn't go off with these new knuckles.

Maybe they got hold of an old mould from Coventry and decided to make a few quid, selling it at half the dealer's price. Comes with 1 year warranty, probably shouldn't be worried now if they passed compliance tests for rigidity Very Happy Otherwise aftermarket lower arms would also have horror stories Smile

EDIT: hmm this Neat Car Parts sell new knuckles also for Renaults, Citroens, Fords, Vauxhalls..

I imagine, we have a lot of snow in a part of France here !

I'm more and more interested to put rustproof under the 206 every year, like in Canada !

Time for a long overdue update.
Been otherwise busy over past months with prepping the X-Type for the winter roadtrips -- by far the best investment, as I couldn't get stuck in the snow even after deliberate attempts Very Happy

All this means I ran out of time to rustproof the 206, so just gave a good ole wash up-and-under before more saltspreadders kicked in

Notice how I went overboard with tyre silk and forgot to remove the excess, which meant another wash soon after DOH!!!

Can't be too clean I guess Smile

Few weeks later the electric PAS pump didn't start up, silver lining as I wanted to see what it'd feel like to drive with it off. However I did park round the block and saw the fluid surging up and out of the reservoir. Luckily, the pump started on the next crank, and I could reach the garage at ease.

So everyone who's thinking to simply add a dash switch for their ePAS pumps, think twice as the fluid is still moved about from the steering rack and you might end up with a huge mess in the engine bay Wink I hope some cut-off-bypasses exist for such cases though.

The pump itself developed a leak, as aptly observed by Pez due to being too close to the exhaust manifold, the plastic membrane within warped and started slowly trickling through the reservoir onto the alternator and the drivebelt:

I then parked the car for good, so it didn't see more of this winter's salt Smile
Soon after the holidays I ordered an identical electric pump, but it came with the cracked bracket that holds the reservoir, due to ally oxidising and swelling defying all forces that hold it together:

Also seeing that it will take too much time making a heatshield, I've sent the pump back (after repairing it for them using the good parts from mine Wink ) and put the power steering back to standard.

Electric pump is much nicer, there are no "flat spots" under engine load/low RPMs, and is a tad stronger than the belt-driven one.
Also you can adjust the pressure valve, to make it stronger or weaker (as explained here)
I'll certainly consider it in my future projects, tucked away from heat sources (yet I still liked the idea of reusing original piping!), and experimenting with the pressure regulator -- use it at your own risk of bursting pipes/seals Wink

Been driving the CC hoping that nothing else will come up and I can put it to rest waiting for missus' driving test, when a nightmare with the front wheel bearing began Evil or Very Mad but that's gonna be in the next thread update Smile

Since replacing the passenger's side hubs and bearings, at some point the car started to feel a bit wander-y.
Quick check revealed quite a bit of play in the brand new bearing (the parts that sandwich it were also brand new!) but no noise/rumbling.

So either I've seated the bearing incorrectly (pressed+tightened), or something's more sinister..

(several Wall Bang s later)

Here are the differences between the old and the new hub assemblies. Don't mind the inner race protruding, it's just one ole knackered bearing Smile :

You can see a coat of rust on the cheap paint job of the swivel hub, eyes on Andrew's powder coats now to see how they'll fare.

Still see no difference? Wink

The taper of the brand new Febi hub shaft is different, and goes farther up the driveshaft:

vs

All the more, it is 0.5mm longer altogether than the assumed stock:

Thus when you do up the hub nut, you end up "squeezing" the hub shaft rather than the bearing.

Solution would be to wet'n'dry sand the hub down, but c'mon Febi!..
I didn't have time to experiment, so I simply pressed the same bearing and the old hub face, been happily driving since with no play! Twisted Evil

Question though, how come the driver's side's fine if it's using the exact same new parts? I'll keep an eye on that. I'll also need to measure the distance between the pressing surfaces of the driveshaft and the hub face, using the old spares I've got kicking about.

To tick off the list of mechanical niggles, replaced the track rod end which had a knackered dust cap:

Now that the car was mechanically sound, it was time to do the tracking (after having swapped front wheels to the rear due to slightly worn outer tyre edge "thanks" to the toe-in):

It became a proper delight throwing her about in the B-road corners due to all this extra low-down weight the CC has! Such a shame this been tuned for comfort and I can't get me no lows Very Happy

After spending winter at the unit where loads of metal grinding and sanding took place, car deserved to be decontaminated with Iron-X (this lemon scent really kills the rotten egg bit!), so it turned out to be a Sundae Sunday DOH!!!

Next I've been toying about adjusting door windows so they shut properly yet don't leak, I tell ya it's a form of art that I found myself far from mastering Smile

Only 15 months since last update, sounds like a short time as car projects go by, thought I'll have another go though Smile

Last year I bought a quarter panel from an old stock of one Pug dealership near the Forest of Dean (what a journey it was with the roof down, in a car which brings its own replacement quarter panel, dogfooding at its finest!)

Back in 2018 I called up my nearest stealer and they said no problem we'll stamp one for you from France, so I didn't rush only to find out a year later they no longer stock those. Was only lucky to find one in Wales, taking up space in their loft, all dusted, scratched, and at a fine discount!

The rest of the story is in pictures (commenced the actual work last month, talk about Valve time..)

Glad I'm not the only one replacing quarter panels on 206s lol, although mine is a used item chopped off a parts car & it's on a 3 door, outside in the weather haha. Nice job on the car in general, very envious of your workspace & proper MIG welder too. (cheap gasless rigs will do a surprising amount when that's all you've got though!)

Strange that hub fitment issue you had, I wonder if it was a manufacturing defect on that one hub seeing as the other side presumably is still fine?

Cheers, got really lucky that the original damage was just above the sill, where the quarter panel spotwelds itself, unlike on the 3 door where it's all one piece. Trying to avoid faffing too much with the body filler:)

To be honest, I had spent too many years in the weather at the Kerbside & Driveway Repairs & Co., that we decided to look for a unit with couple of mates, and that turned out to be a NeverEnding project in its own right (as they all do), but every drop of blood sweat and tears is paying off.
One mate started his trade there, thus good to get some nice bit of kit and a pair of helping hands such as welding.

I might have another car with a bearing issue, will be able to get to the bottom of this hub taper then I hope:)

Yes the 3 door is mucho paino, bodywork's my least favourite bit of playing with cars anyway but needs must. I've gone to the spot welds where I can on that but not lifting the damn roof skin! Just going with a seam weld down in the gutter channel up top & butt welds above and below the door at the narrowest points I could get.

A workshop would be really nice, specially when summers are like they are currently, All the spare cash goes on the cars anyway lol so it's dodging rainstorms with extension leads and sweating in the sun for me for the forseeable Very Happy

Alrighty, 8 months since last update, better make another one Very Happy

Certain plans reshuffled priorities, meaning Symio is going back on road this month, which first begs a lick of paint splashed onto the naked parts...

This is what a sun-drenched factory-black-primed front wing looks like few years down the line:

Unity wedding or madman's makeshift spray-booth? I'll stick with the latter

It's all about the prep

Will never look the same again (bought for but not used two years ago..:)

Primer down, left to cure overnight. Budget air-fed mask worked a treat, couldn't even get high on fumes nor become mad as a hatter Very Happy

Even pulled off a Tesla paint job a.k.a. "missed a bit"

Before/after clear coat shots:

Nice from far, far from nice, but as my first ever paint job, more than happy!

Lessons learned:
- Ensure masking film or paper aren't loose, otherwise they'll get caught in the spray-gun turbulence and slap onto the painted area (found out the hard way when laying down primer, wet-sanding fixed the wrinkles out)
- If you are pressed for time (or cold weather), don't do it: lacquer didn't gas off between coats and ended up with a couple of runs.
Not an issue per se, but that meant I couldn't put down more coats in that time-frame. Even more sadly, it became evident that more coats were needed only after it had dried.

Will know better next time, might attempt to wet-sand the orange-peel and some rough areas of thin-clear, and spray couple more coats anew, risking the car to look like an old speckled hen due to trapped dust, but ho-hum!
Bought extra litres of clear coat, because Jude's roof's top coat's becoming eroded due to UVs I bet. Hopefully won't repeat the ^ mistakes no more:)

MOT day was looming and just by touching, tank strap turned into dust. Good thing I overstocked from the dealer few years back, though now down only to one spare left and some other 206 on the line soon:)

MOT PASSed! Missus will enjoy some drive-abouts with L plates on, and is only allowed to scuff the nearside corners, if this re-clear rework ever comes to fruition Rolling On The Floor Laughing

Going back to 2020, annoying gearbox leak was getting long in the tooth.

Trusting the Haynes manual that the leaking side selector seal can only be replaced by taking the whole box apart, and running out of time, sourced another gearbox.
Looks like they mishandled it while shipping, and I could only hope this one won't leak:

So off came the gearbox again for one last time; lo and behold, no more leaks! Probably will delve into taking the old gearbox apart in an (un)foreseeable future:)

Yet during test-drive it often had hard time going into 1st... Mate already laughed at me for buying gearbox at its face value:D Luckily it sorted itself after a few dozen miles.

Shoed with the winter tyres, for all those very chilly commutes early in the mornings:) (Don't) mind the gap!

Up until this day the car has been with L plates on, missus' driving test's loomin'.

Fitted Garmin Dashcam Mini, perfectly hiding behind the mirror, rear one still TODO (the two cams nicely sync up in the app)

Sorting out previous MOT advisories made it pass squeaky clean this time!

Under load, this rotten exhaust flange would rasp as if someone was clearing their throat...

It was time for it to go, but without buying new cat obviously. Parts ordered and received 2.5 years prior... "Valve time" is still strong with this one:)

Jimmy-the-welder did phenomenal job!

Albeit now I'm in a pickle to sort out remaining rubbing noise after exhaust geometry changed a bit...

Scrubs up nicely everytime with Meg's ceramic wax, more info here: www.206info.co.uk/Foru...66524.html

Mandatory shell photos:)) Gotta love their red LED strips

What a bonnie looking cc! I wish mine looked that good - alas some paint is bubbling. Looking at that I think the crystals look better than the angel eyes on mine - alas prior owner butchered the wiring fitting them and I'm too lazy to mess with it.
The rubbing reminds me of something - the SW had a issue with that with a cheap exhaust part... Molle grips and bend the hangers ! Well, that's what the mechanic did anyway - it was fouling on the rear bars.
How's the Garmin mini? I'm skint at the moment but I've been eying them up for the Honda - I really like that the recording quality doesn't change as it's independent cameras.
