Hi all
Has anyone got any ideas on how I can refit the gearbox on my 206?
Took it out to replace the clutch and now cannot get it back in! I cannot get the intermediate driveshaft bearing out of the holder (yes undone the bearing clamps ) so having to try and line up both shafts at the same time (first motion and the intermediate driveshaft)
The problems seems to be the driveshaft not locating
Any ideas??
Frustrated in Scunthorpe!

What engine and box is it?
Usually easier to fit and then add driveshaft after. Have you also replaced the driveshaft seals. Pain to put it all together and then find your seals need changing!

I agree with Steve about the driveshaft, its sounds like a nightmare trying to fit it like that. It may well be the teeth are out slightly which is why it wont locate, you could try to rotate the driveshaft a few times so that the teeth line up.
When you say you have undone the bearing clamps, have you just removed the nuts? On my GTI the retaining bolts have a cam lobe style end, so you need to rotate the bolts themselves to clear the bearing before it will come out. Its not that easy to see when they are actually clear as well, i always found a small telescopic mirror a great help to see when the bolts are clear.
Did you also make sure the new clutch is properly aligned as if thats not right you wont get it back in.

Hi guys
It’s a 1.1 with an MA5 gearbox.
I tried rotating the prop and the engine to see if it was just allignment and no joy - left it a day and went back to it, kicked the gearbox half heartedly and it popped in!
It was a pig to get in with the prop in the way and I had rotated the bearing clamps out of the way but the bearing was stuck fast.
Next time a garage can have the hassle!
Thanks for the replies - need to read the forum before I attempt anything next time

Why not remove the whole mount that the bearing is attached To?
