I have a replacement door mirror and need to take the top body coloured cover off to respray it to the correct colour for my car. I imagine it must be possible without breaking it into pieces but how? Thanks if you can help.

The rear (by the mirror) edge is 'folded over' the edge of the housing, the front/forward edge is held in with clips (cast into the cover, not separate/replaceable) .

The advise I saw when I worked on mine was to pry up the inner (next to the window) edge of the 'folded over' part and work outwards, then gently manipulate it to release the clips.

Managed to break one clip on each side in the process... Still holding 7+ years later, and IIRC one could stuff some doublesided foam tape in there to help hold it, if it came to that.

By the looks of the clips/hooks, it looks to me like they need to move rearwards, towards the mirror, to release, but the grip point looks to be lower than what you could get a tool (reasonably easy) at, and pushing higher is likely to shear off the thin plastic

If I had a garage/ place to bring the car indoors, I'd consider painting in place and put the effort in masking off/covering what's not to be painted

I used a thin steel rule to push the clips in slightly and gently prised the cap up .. but they shouldn't be expensive to buy if something breaks .. plastic gets brittle over time


	Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.
