hi all hope u can help i know nothing about cars

i have a pug 206 55 plate 1.4 turbo diesel

the plorblem i have is with the brakes

if i apply the brakes slowly they go soft and don't work well the pedal slowly goes close to the floor if u press abit harder they do work to a fashions...if i hit them hard as in emergency stop they work fine also abs works !


so at the moment i have to keep tapping the brakes to get it to the garage!

i 1st noticed this when on a hill the car started to creek back instead of staying solid.. another think is if u pump the pedal with the ignition on u can here a suction sound near the drivers footwell as if its pulling air and the pedal starts to get harder to press as if it has more pressure

also if the ignition is off the break pedal is hard with your foot on it soon as you start the car the peddle will go down soft

had it to the garage they topped up fluids, bleed the breaks and no joy physically everything seems fine

next they changed the master break cylinder and still nothing so now there stumpped

so i thought id ask the professional Smile


any help or advice

Does your 206 have the optional ESP system fitted?

If you give us your VIN number (via Private Message) we can check on the Peugeot Service box for an answer to that!

Personally, I have ESP and had this problem and we discovered a minor leak coming from the rear brake pipe which over time meant less brake fluid and more air in the system resulting in more travel on the pedal the longer you 'held it down'.

HI i cant get the vin as its sill in the garage mate thanks tho

they couldn't fine any leaks while on the ramp.. they have pressurized the system and bled it twice.. the garage has been going a while maybe not the best but assume anything basic they should be able to spot im thinking its more something special with the 206 maybe

there saying there is no leaks or air in it 100% so must be something else

i mentioned the servo but they were under the impression they ever work or they dont i.e either brakes or no breaks ?

like say slow breaking is poor but press them hard and fast and you nearly go through the window lol

Hi i nust bought a 206 gti 2002 model having spo gy brakes have bled brakes 3 times new pads on the rear canu assist thks Brian

if they have changed the master cylinder sometimes the ABS pump could need bleeding using a diagnostic machine. I had this on mine after changing the Master cylinder and once the abs pump was bleed up it worked fine. Must of had a slight bit of air trapped in the pump.

Probably worth a try mate

Having read all sorts of contradications around, Sim and I decided to test using PP2000 to bleed the system and it did nothing other than direct you on how to perform the bleed.

There was no pump action whatsoever, which was very disappointing. Smile

My previous car was a s**t show. I bled it 3 times and nit still had air in the system. I ended up jacking up the rear end and leaving it for a 2 days, then the 4th time loads of air came out and it was golden.

Suction noise in footwell sounds like the vacuum assist but i dunno if your car uses this method. Also i believe that would make the brakes harder? Im sure the garage would have checked this.

It does sound like air in the system. Did they bleed with a pressure bleeder? Have they bled out the abs pump? Definitely no leaks on the rear cyclinders or brake lines?

Yes mate i used PP2000 first and nothing happened so i used a Launch diagnostic machine and just activated the pump to get the air out. Not sure if it worked or not but after bleeding all 4 corners again afterwards it seemed to have a much better pedal feel
