Just wondering if anyone else here has fitted a cable-operated gearbox in their 206? Got a deal on a 2.0HDi (or maybe 2.2, dunno or care really it was £30!) engine and gearbox and am planning to use the HDi 'box in our 1.9TD swap.

I know I'll likely have to mess round with driveshafts to get something to fit (or get custom made) and considering the options for the clutch. Hoping to convert the release arm to a cable type and a push clutch but not looked too closely yet at that.

Both of those I can sort easy enough but the main thing is the fact that the 406 'box is obviously cable operated. Has anyone retrofitted the shift lever/cable setup to a 206, or alternatively converted the 'box to work with the 206 linkage?

Cheers

GTI 180 uses cables for the gear change.

IIRC much later lowered powered 206s also used cable gear change.

Wow, haha shows how hard I've looked under the bonnet of the 180 then! I just presumed they were all rod/linkage type.

That makes things potentially a bit easier then, will have to look around the scrappies at later ones and see what can be gleaned, assuming I can't make this 406 'box work with a modified linkage of course.

Having had a quick glance over the thing this morning, I'm quite hopeful of being able to change to cable & push clutch a bit easier than planned too. Looks like the fork/shaft and lever assembly from the 1.1 might actually slot into the case rather than welding up the current fork.

Cheers for the reply, should be useful & much appreciated.
Dan.

Cool, so at least some "lesser" 206s had cable shift then, that's good to know & there's a couple or three 2.0CC in a local scrappy when we get a chance to go look round. (Only went there a few days ago, looking at what they had in the way of DW8 gearboxes etc, as hadn't spotted the 406 bits at that point).
