Hi,
I have 206 1.1i (HFZ) that's making an knocking noise from the engine? and I can't figure out what it is.
1) It only makes the noise at idle.
2) It only makes the noise when the engine is warm.
I took a video of the engine running:

Many thanks

Does it make any difference whatsoever when you depress the clutch?
Having said that it sounds like a valve overheating and knocking a bit.
Could easily be something else though and someone on here can help more.

When was the last time the valve clearances where checked / adjusted?
There manual adjustment on this TU1 engine & remember being a Peugeot number 1 cylinder is the gearbox end!
Advisable to get a replacement rocker cover gasket & not to over tighten the rocker cover as it's easy to warp which will result in oil leaks.

To be honest it sounds a bit quick and deep to be a valve, it'd be lighter tapping sound and half engine speed if it was. One thing I've known to produce a "bottom end knock" sound though, is the harmonic balancer pulley.
If the valves are in spec (might as well check/adjust them since they've likely been neglected for years anyway) then I'd suggest removing the aux belt (power steering and alternator belt) and see if the noise changes/goes away. Also look very carefully at the condition of the harmonic balancer (the largest of the pulleys, attached to the crankshaft) and give it a wiggle, see if the rubber bonding between the inner and outer metal parts is suspect.
Could you also record another video with the engine doing this, but blip the throttle a couple of times?
