Hi,

I have a 1.4l Petrol 206 S (2005). I have an intermittent issue where the temp gauge will randomly go from roughly 90 to max within a few seconds causing the stop light to flash and beep. After a few seconds though the temperature will return to normal. I have a video of this happening at this link.

It seems to happen in all sorts of situations. On some journeys it won’t happen at all whereas on others it will happen 4-5 times. There is plenty of coolant and the fan is working (it comes on when this happens). It doesn’t seem to have any pattern as it happens on journeys of different lengths and in different weathers.

The car is otherwise operating fine. I did recently have to replace the silencer (exhaust) however I don’t expect that to be relevant.

I've recently learned that when the coolant temp sensor (CTS) is disconnected, the car defaults to fans on/overheat warning. Check the connection to the CTS on the side of the head, if the wiring and connector are all in good shape then it's possible the sensor itself is failing and intermittently going open circuit.

Was the sensor on the thermostat housing when that happened on my 1.4 Hdi


	Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.
