Hi,
New to the forum so apologies if I've posted this in the wrong section.
I have just bought a 2008 Look 1.4 petrol for my son to learn to drive in but it only has one key. This is the one that does the central locking but obvioulsy want a second key for piece of mind.
Doesn't have to be the remote one, just one that will open the car and start it should anything happen to the other one. He doesn't have the key code.
Any suggestions on the cheapest and easiest way to go about this.
Any help will be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

I was quoted I think it was £60 for a new key from my local locksmith. I need to take the car there. On the face of it that might seem a lot at first but I reckon that's fair for piece of mind if nothing else. Was just about to get it done before lockdown. Must get around and sort it.

I was quoted by Locks 'N' Tools in Dartford, Kent. I've always used them for domestic and landlord stuff and they're spot on.

There's a chance my lad might take this old Pug away to uni and I dread the call he's lost the key and we have no spare!

I'm in the same situation and had a mixed bag regarding the prices I've been quoted.

the cheapest I've seen is £67 from key cutters in my local Sainsbury's and the most expensive is £120+ (If I remember rightly) which was from a local locks smith.

I think £60 sounds like a good price. I'm going for the cheaper option this payday.

All Locks 'N' Tools said was they need the car and working key taken to them to do it.

Finally got around to getting a spare, non remote key cut for the 206. Took the car and key in. (That was non remote anyway as SWMBO only got one when she bought the car. I've fitted an aftermarket Hawk remote kit to do the central locking).

They had to order the key blank in overnight. I didn't have the key code that they can use to CNC cut the key so the fella did it old school on the key copying machine. All programmed up and fitted/started the car first time. £65.

Might seem steep to some but I'm happy enough. Locked the one key in my Golf GTi the other day. Had to bang plastic wedges in the door and gently lever to get a long plastic curtain rod/hook in. Damaged the door rubbers a bit.
