As subject says, it won't go into any of the 3 "rearward" positions.
No problem with going into the " forward" positions of the gearstick, ie 1st, 3rd and 5th.
When moving stick back it's just softly springy and returns to middle position when released.

Broken cable in the linkage? Or worse,something inside the box?

A roll-pin fell out of our linkage (that was on a 1.4 Hdi though) ...

Cheap fix though!

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

IIRC the GTI 180 / RC uses mechanical bowden cables to select the gears.

You need to check the cables at both ends are attached / operating correctly before condemning the gearbox.

I'd take the battery out and work out which way the linkages should be moving. Then see if they will go into gear if pushed by hand.
