Was not expecting to come home with another car today, but when you get such an offer (56 plate SW 1.4i Verve with 70k miles for £50) one does what one must.

Car in question has a cooked head, already removed and confirmed warped by the garage, and I'm leaning towards the block being toast as well given the description given by the former owner (was driving on m-way and wife smelled something hot then car just cut out, garage said HG failed on all four pots) and looking at the crispy remains of the gasket & smelling the engine oil I'm thinking it got seriously roasted.

Aside from that, it's got a few parking scrapes around the back end, seller had already removed the alloys because the tyres were new, and the MoT has just expired but looking at the history it's been well kept & is otherwise reasonable condition, reckon it should pass with the engine & wheels sorted & a tank strap/wiper blades etc. Well worth saving IMO even if I do have to throw a used engine at it. Will try and get some pics when it's light, but I say we stole it for the price!

It seems several of us are prone to such offers. This is the 3rd 206 for £50 in the last 4 or 5 years I know of! Wink

The fabled £50 car, they are out there, just got to be in the right place at the right time I guess. Very Happy

Not had time to wipe my backside much less do photos yet but have made an executive decision to spend 7 quid on a Corteco OE gasket and throw the cooked motor back together temporarily. Very much not expecting miracles, but for the pittance the gasket costs I may as well put the thing together and get it running so it can be moved around easier if nothing else & the engine will be easier to crane out too, with the head on.

Depending on how good or bad it holds fluids/pressure in the right places might even throw it at the MoT station like that too. Fully plan to replace the engine as a whole don't get me wrong, but would be cool to get an idea if the rest of the car is as good as I hope.
