Hi to everyone,I’ve think that I may have a problem.I’ve bought a replacement steering wheel for my 2001 gti.It looks like the problem I may have is the airbag fitment. It looks like the wheel I’ve bought has the single hole underneath to remove the airbag, the wheel on my 2001 have holes either side of the wheel,my question is would the new wheel fit and would my airbag fit on the new wheel?.Many thanks in advance.

Sorry, no. The later wheel has a completely different fitment. You probably have a multiplex wheel and trying to fit the earlier pre-mux airbag. The later airbag will not be compatible with the car either so it's back to fleabay for a early wheel I'm afraid.

The two different wheels:

Pre-mux: which is the one you need. You can clearly see the two air-bag mounting holes

Multiplex: the one you have with the clip-on airbag (and should be easy to sell on)

Just looks like a standard non plexed wheel.

The sport / GTI non plexed wheel has the same leather & grips as the multiplexed version shown - but obviously in a non plexed airbag fitment.

Thanks again Gazza,so,let me get this straight,I can’t fit a multiplex wheel with the suitable air bag,is it because of the connectors that are fitted my 2001 Gti?.

That's right. Your 2001 will need the steering wheel style at the top with two screws to hold the airbag on and an airbag from the same age - 2001 or before. Get the right wheel and the airbag you have will fit.

I’m sorry to keep bending your ear Gazza,so it’s pointless me buying an airbag to fit the wheel in your bottom picture?

100% pointless.

The airbag wiring is totally different plus the multiplexed airbag is a DUAL stage airbag so wouldnt work on your 206.

Just get the correct steering wheel for your 206 - you can easily sell on the incorrect one you purchased.
