Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some advice regarding a fault with the front wipers/washers on my 2003 206 1.6 GLX.. All of a sudden, the front wipers and washers have stopped working completely (on all speeds).

I have checked the fuses.. all of which were fine. There are no codes stored within the BSI. I can trigger the wipers to run on high speed during an actuator test, although they won't run for long (maybe 2 or 3 sweeps), and then just park on the screen wherever they fail.
They won't run at all on slow speed, even from a actuator test.. but when triggered by the scanner, the washers will work perfectly (they do nothing at all when operated via the stalk).

I have read about the Com 2000, which is apparently a part of the stalk assembly on the steering column, which in turn sends a signal to the BSI when the stalk is operated. At first I suspected that the stalk/COM 2000 was at fault.. but after thinking about it, I was under the impression that the scanner communicated directly with the BSI.. effectively bypassing the stalk/COM 2000.. so if it were a fault with the Stalk/Com 2000.. shouldn’t it operate perfectly from an actuator test with the scanner? As I mentioned earlier.. I can get them to run on high speed using the scanner.. it’s only a few sweeps, and then parking wherever they stop.. but it would surely rule out a motor fault?

Any advice on where I should look next would be very much appreciated.. I do have access to a scan tool if required.

Thank you very much in advance.

Just a quick information update following a little more investigation with the scanner..

Firstly, whilst watching the data status screen.. nothing is updated whilst operating the wiper stalk.. everything remains ‘inactive’.
So basically, the wiper stalk appears to be a dead unit.

I have tested for voltages at the wiper motor plug.. there is nothing whatsoever whilst operating the stalk.. but when using the actuator tests via the scanner.. I have a brief 12v whilst testing ‘high speed’ (which would explain why, as mentioned in the original post that they work for 2 or 3 sweeps, and then stop when testing high speed with the scanner).. but no voltage at all whilst testing anything else.

Something I did notice was a relay ‘clicking’ in the engine fuse box.. there is no ‘clicking’ at all whilst operating the wiper stalk.. but when performing actuator tests via the scanner.. the relay clicks whilst doing each test.. even on the low speed test where there is no voltage present at the motor plug.

I just thought that I’d better add these few updates on the testing I have done so far, in case it helps anyone with a diagnosis.. it really is a strange one.

Any help very much appreciated..
