Hi Everyone,
Me and a mate bought a 206RC (GTI180 for UK audience) a couple of months ago to turn into an endurance race car. It was spotless when we bought it (apart from the low-speed fan stuff) and while I had it for a month. Then I parked it in a garage while I went on holiday, and at some point during the parking period it went crazy somehow.

The car was parked for 5 weeks, battery in and car unlocked.
When I went to see it this weekend, as soon as I opened the door, the car made the beep that indicates that the key is in the ignition barrel, and the dash lit up. The issue is, there was no key in.

When I put the key in, the dash stayed lit, when I rotated the key to position I, the dash stayed lit, but when I rotated the key to position II (ignition), everything died. Dash went out, nothing electrical worked, the car was properly off. Turning the key to start position did nothing as well. As soon as I rotated the key back to OFF position and took the key out, the dash lit up again.

The relay box in the engine compartmen was also clicking frantically whenever the dash was lit up.

I have never ever seen anything like this in any car. I wanted to do the BSI reset procedure, but I couldnt get the windows down, as there is no power coming to them with the key in any position, the radio and climate also stay off. I have now left the car with the battery disconnected for the time being until I have more time to burn in the garage.

Here is a video of the behaviour. The dash is off before I put the key in, because I had my girl disconnect and reconnect the battery, while I was in the car with doors closed.

Any of you have seen anything like this / know whats going on?

Cheers,
Eimantas

I'm assuming you've tested the battery to make sure it's full charged and no dead cells?

Worth checking the earth straps too

It was a battery. Tried jumping the old one, but that didn't work. But as soon as I put in the battery from my daily, the 206 started as if it was new. Cheers for the tip qwert!
