Normally I get three 'peeps', then the ecu light comes on, or the door's stuck open, or I'm told to stop, or whatever. But recently while driving I got the 'peeps' and the battery charging light came on - nothing else. I thought the alternator belt may have snapped but it hadn't. Turning the engine on and off restored it to normal running.
It's done it twice now, maybe 50 miles apart. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the alternator itself is on its way out. Especially if the battery light will be coming on more and more often -- exactly how mine packed up eventually.
Funny thing those alternators, our current one doesn't charge during colder seasons, until you blip the accelerator. For this reason I bought the voltage meter and USB charger all in one: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...B0B7DTZTJW
But it's been like that for a couple of years already, no degradation, touch wood:)

Ta. Will see if the mileage gets less between 'issues'.

Same thing happened to mine a few months back , it was the alternator that needed replacing.

Ta both. Been quoted £410 to change, which is more than the car's worth, so trying to find out pitfalls of doing it myself.

Might be worth looking at the voltage regulator first, part of the alternator. If the brushes get worn down then there's no charging. Depends how handy you are though with tools.
