[size=18]Hi Everyone, My 2004 car needed MOT and the air bag light came on two days ago - so my garage has tested the wiring to the 2000 comms unit and say they are all fine and they wont touch the air bag itself. They now suggest I get a specialist car electronics company to see if they can track down the fault. Anyone got any ideas why an air bag light would come on? Is it worth buying a 2nd hand 2000 unit? Error message was P1802 - Drivers level 2 airbag igniter open circuit.

Does your 206 have side air bags fitted in the front seats?
If it does check the connector plugs under the seats.
206 airbag system is pretty simple - fix the fault & the light will go out.
Really needs scanning for fault codes on the airbag system to point you in the right direction.

The drivers airbag is a dual stage device on these multiplexed 206s so it has 2 x explosive charges inside it.
There are 2 x connector plugs from the COM2000 unit in to the drivers airbag.
It sound very much like a faulty COM2000 unit but without seeing the vehicle its impossible to confirm.

Thanks for your prompt reply Mr BSI!
I think thats the dilemma I've got. The car electrics firm I've been recommended will only fit a brand new com 2000 if that's the real problem (at over £400) and it will still cost me (a minimum £90 callout) to just have a full electrics test anyway. They really didn't want to touch it TBH.
My other option is to take a punt on getting a refurbished Com 200 unit (£139 with 12 months guarantee though) and see if it solves the problem and gets my car through its MOT. If the fault lies somewhere else its just going to be too expensive to solve it.
Anyway thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'll let you know what happens with my car.

Get the ID numbers of the COM2000 unit currently fitted to your vehicle & see what you can find.
206 did share certain COM2000 units with Peugeot Partner & Citroen Berlingo of same era.
I got a new Valeo one from Euro Car Parts many years ago - no idea if they still sell them.
