I have a 2002 206 SW HDI 90 D-Turbo, the present problem is the Manual gear shift, I does not centre on its own and is very "Floppy" for want of a better word.
I have looked underneath the car and all the linkage is attached, but I was surprised to find that there are no springs or from what I can see any where to mount any to centre the Lever.
I am more used to RWD vehicles and in their case there are generally springs fitted internally to centre the gear lever.
I appreciate that the linkage on the 206 is external so centering the gear lever may rely on a different system.
If anyone can shed any light on what system Peugeot use to achieve this on a 206 HDI 90 I would be grateful.
The fact that the Gear lever stays where it is left is really irritating.
All suggestions gratefully received

The linkage is attached on top of the gearbox, under the battery. Off the top of my head i think there are 3 linkages. It sounds like one of them is loose or broken.
