Ive decided ill make a start on a thread for my project, so here it is.
I passed my test on 8th November 2010 and was already insured on my mums little corsa c that I had learnt to drive in, I continued on my mums insureance when it was due for renewal in june 2011 and used the car for work as she also has another car for work anyway she said I could do what I want with it so I slapped on some white alloys etc etc. but I was fed up because all my mates I worked with were driving around in decent cars, (gti 180’s , clio 192’s/182’s and corsa 1.6t’s) they were mostly all on their parents insurance but paying whey more than what I paid for my little corsa 1.2, anyway after months of saving I started looking at what car to buy next, well I had to get insurance quotes on them all and decided that id go on my own insurance when I turn nineteen (3rd june 2012) because it wasn’t worth going on my mums on the new car due to the fact it was only like £500 cheaper and I wouldn’t have been getting any no claims bonus, so on my own at nineteen fully comp with no noclaims bonus on cars that I liked including (audi tt’s, gti 180s and the clio 182’s) insurance prices were from £2900 to £3700!! :/ I was gutted but realise I may aswell bite the bullet so I went for the gti180 because I bloody love them and for the price of the car I don’t think there is many cars that have as good spec for under four grand to be honest. Anyway heres the beast I picked:
I had to travel to Manchester to get it as it was exactly what I wanted and had 37k miles on the clock which for an 04 plate I didn’t think was bad at all really.
Once home I gave her a damn good clean and this is what she looked like :
I noticed there were some swirl marks and the paintwork felt a little bit rough and im picky so I couldn’t stand it haha so I ordered a Maguire’s clay bar kit, Maguire’s swirl x and some collinite wax to give it a good chance at staying red
Didn’t really get any good pictures of the swirl marks before because my phone camera wouldn’t pick them up for some reason :/ anyway here’s some pictures of after :
So that’s it so far but I do plan on some slight modifications.
Here’s a to do list iv made so far:
Get some new lion badges for the wheels
Change the lockwood front grill to a standard honey comb
Spray the wheels gloss black (unsure as yet to do this)
Put some decent shoes on her as shes running on budgets at the moment.
(Avon’s £83 PW????)
Mask the crystals black. (like masked valeos)
Lower it by no more than 35mm, but im unsure what springs/dampers to go for ( want handling but my budget is only £400)
Janspeed exhaust when mine rots through as its original
K&N panel filter- done
Possibly remap
Ooooo and cambelt as it hasn’t been changed yet
I was thinking of camming it but not too aggressive, would it be worth the money??
oh and my folding mirrors dont fold for some reason bit gutted not going to lie, ive tried my mates switch and its not that, anyone got any ideas????
UP DATE:
Just a quick one I've fitted myself a K&N panel filter
Update 2: I stiripped Down the front brakes and gave them a good clean up and also painted the calipers red, whilst I was doing this I checked the front disks.... They were absolutely shot through, the back side of them was so thin they looked like they had just given up on life so replaced them aswell as new ferodo premium pads. I've also now polished the inlet manifold a bit and took the top cambelt cover off to see if it had any major wear on it which it didn't but It's 8 years old now so I thought it would be best to get it done, I looked into doing it myself as I'm a fitter but iv got that much on at the minute and I think I'd need to allow a couple of days to get it right, I just can't fit it in so I rang a local garage and they want £280 to do it including the cam belt kit but no water pump but then again the pump shouldn't have much wear with it only having 37k miles,
What do you guys think to the quote I got and the water pump situation ???

it's really nice man, but i don't understand how 19 year olds can afford to drive cars like this. I'm 20 now, when i first passed 2 or 3 years ago insurance on anything more than a 1.4 was just ridiculous. You say all you're mates drive clio 182s etc, where im from all my mates had a 1.1/1.4 occasionally someone with rich parents would get a 1.6. Basically you're lucky to be able to drive that at 19 make the most of it

Tidy looking 180 mate, very good condition. I would go for white wheels, I might have even done the photoshop for you in the post about wheel colour. I've been looking at getting my 138 cammed, it is expensive, I know on the 138 the output figures can be pretty good (when combined with a re-map, no point putting the cmas in without a re-map as they wont work effectively), but there are others that say there are other more effective ways to get the higher figures. TB's and the like.

cheers Jord :), i know a am lucky to be honest but i can only afford it after nearly two years of saving and being employed as an apprentice mechanical engineer on the steelworks, most of my mates work on the steelworks and started at the same as me but some of them are now 20/21 so obviously they had the advantage of being able to get better (not good but better) insurance quotes before me, and the thing is they may have only been working for like a year maybe even two before they got a good car but most of them put it on tick which i didn’t want to do because of the current climate so i just saved for a lot longer and did some share dealing then bought the gti 180 for £3000 which is about what the 180s are worth now i think, even though i feel they are as good as an 08 plate corsa 1.6t, then insurance is another point ill be paying mine in full because i could wait, now one of these lads i know with the corsa has put his car on tick then paid £3k insurance in full, 8 months on and i ask have you nearly saved enough for your insurance renewal yet and he replied "no mate i havn’t been able to because iv been spending all my money on mods, so ill put it on pay monthly next year" so this kids going to be paying out nearly £600 a month on his corsa for at least two more years :/ now that is why i waited and saved like a mad man for about two years

Biggest mistake I made was buying my 180 @ 18, paid 9k for the car and £4250 TPFT apparently your're not meant to be able to drive such a car till your 21, that was 7 yrs ago now though ha.
Looks nice.
I want to revert mine to honey combs but cba to faf with it all tbh lol
Remapping is defo worth it, I had a generic Angel Tuning remap and although it wasn't custom to my mods the car moved!

Jesus that’s a hell of allot of cash to spend at 18 i couldn’t bring myself to that to be honest :')
Cheers and i just like the originality of the honey comb
Well i think ill have to get it remapped if it really does make a difference, did you have an aftermarket filter or stainless steel exhaust on aswell ?? Or did you just use a generic map to run without modifications???
