180 clutch slip??

I went to do a quick set of from some traffic lights the other night and revved right through the Vvt in first, changed to second and the engine kept going, changed to third it kept going , at first I thought it was the tyres so I moved the stealing wheel slightly to see how it felt then changed to fourth and let off the throttle and the revs dropped back down, now it didn't feel to be wheel spinning and there's was quite a smell so I think it was the clutch giving way even tho I've never had it slip before , it's an 04 plate currently with 44k miles ,
Anyone heard of the clutch going on these at this sort of millage ??

I was having a look and euro car parts have two valeo clutches and I don't know which one it could be , anyone got any ideas ??

i let my friend do a 0-60 in my 180 when he let the clutch in at 3k it just slpped the cluch all the way through to 3rd gear, i told him to stop but he didnt! the car smelt for 2 day after that :@

that was on a clutch and flywheel that had dont 5k miles so no wear on it! just odd

Cheers for the reply dan , I found it quite weird to be honest iv never had anything like that happen before,

And Edward I didn't say it kicked in I just said I revved it through Vvt, as in through to the end of the rev range, sorry if it came across like a vtec statement. Smile

how is it driveing now its had a chance to cool down ?? if its all ok you maybe lucky and it will be ok for a while providing you don't go for any more grand prix starts.

It alright now and I haven't smelt it at all today , not slipped at all since but the biting point has always been quite high since buying it but I just thought it was normal as iv not drove a 206 before, iv heard that a high biting point is the sign of a worn clutch, but I've not had any experience with clutch failure so I wouldn't know :/

yeah high biteing point will normaly be a sign of worn clutch plate but if its not slipping under normal driveing then you may get a bit more life out of it.

Its down to how its been driven and if its been drove like that alot then that will be why its slipping.

Does it slip when you boot it normally?

Haha well said mate, the fun I have with this type of discussions with people 'like when I hit the vvt I left them for dust' = no you didn't

Any ways when my clutch started to go it was more noticeable from 2nd to 3rd. I would do a normal low rpm gear change then accelerate then the revs would pick up as if I was 'ridding' the clutch. Then it started doing it in every gear. Just be careful mate as you don't want your clutch getting worse if the bad weather continues.

I can see what you mean rich , I did give it some boot but when I usually give it boot it never slips, was just a one off.

And spike I didn't say it kicks in !! Laughing I know it's not vtec haha

Driven carefully you could get another 20,000 miles plus from this clutch. That is if you want to drive it carefully.

That's right take the p**s Laughing Vvt does have increased power higher up the rev range tho, but I know vtec kick in like a switch, I did not describe vtec haha
